“Si vis pacem, para bellum.”
Let he who desires peace prepare for war.
The stories Nic tells are Epic Military Fantasy. Through a lens of a fanatical world of elemental magic, meddling dryads, and men and women with wings, it is her goal to take you inside the mind of those soldiers who fight against the overwhelming sorrow that is war without end.
At fourteen years old, she took her first steps towards a love of martial combat when she read about a young man in a fantastical world who had a duty to fight for the less fortunate because, given his knowledge and abilities, ‘he was bound to try’.
After discovering genre fiction in high school, she turned that passion for fantasy sword fights into a love of the modern sport of fencing until she ended up competing in the 2000 Junior Olympics. Over twenty years later, she is now a coach herself, but she never stopped fighting, on the fencing strip or in life.
While pursuing an English degree at the University of Iowa, she indulged in the truly epic military and political history that overwhelmed the world of Ancient Rome. Realizing she could advocate for others as an academic, she attended Suffolk University Law School and became a lawyer who could defend the rights of other artists like herself. At thirty-five years old, she enlisted into the Army National Guard, becoming the public servant at the heart of the war-torn story she had been writing about for the past twenty years. “Si vis pacem, para bellum” are the words that have driven her all her life. Let he who desires peace prepare for war. Armed with the knowledge of those who came before, she believes we can do better. We deserve better. Whatever our passions, culture, or creeds, love should bring us together. Peace, for all its problems, is worth a fighting chance.
For Honor and Glory!
